At the beginning of 2020, thanks to the rampant spread of COVID-19, this winter felt unusually cold. The impact of this epidemic on people has even surpassed that of SARS seventeen years ago. Starting from late January, people have been living in a state of anxiety: How can we ensure our safety and security? When will production be able to resume?

Under the unified deployment and correct guidance of Tianqi Automation, Jiangsu FAW Foundry Co., Ltd., led by General Manager Sun Chunhui and all its employees, began making various preparations for resuming work on January 26 (the second day of the first lunar month). On the one hand, they promptly gathered information on employees' Spring Festival travel plans and health conditions, and prepared epidemic prevention supplies. On the other hand, they made arrangements for products urgently awaiting delivery, assessed the inventory and procurement status of raw materials needed for production, took preventive measures against risks of delayed product deliveries caused by force majeure, and communicated with customers in a timely manner. They also formulated detailed implementation rules for the use of shuttle buses, canteens, and bathrooms after resuming work. Ultimately, the company successfully passed the review by the relevant departments of the Huishan Development Zone and became one of the first batch of enterprises in Wuxi City to resume work on February 10, 2020.
Right from the start of resuming work, there was a severe shortage of personnel on the production floor. The shaping workshop’s resumption rate was only around 30%, and the packing and crane operation teams were also critically understaffed. Meanwhile, due to the lockdowns and entry/exit restrictions imposed by various communities, scheduling production shifts became extremely inconvenient. Under the leadership of Deputy General Manager Li Ping, all employees in the Foundry Department adjusted their working hours and increased the number of shifts, reassigning personnel throughout the workshop to meet the production demands of key customers.

All employees have overcome numerous challenges. Some employees even came to the factory early to work night shifts in order to avoid restrictions imposed on their residential communities. Yuan Hongjun and Gu Zhenyu, the managers of the molding workshop, led by example, going deep into the field to provide hands-on operational guidance to frontline workers, setting a shining example for their colleagues and boosting their morale. The female colleagues in the crane operation team overcame the stress of working late hours and the associated safety risks, adjusting their regular morning shift schedule from the usual 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Facing the difficult situation of having only three members in the box-opening team, they extended their working hours and intensified their efforts, successfully producing the sand boxes needed for production as scheduled and ensuring an adequate supply of reclaimed sand. Moreover, teams such as the transportation squad, the preparation squad, and the central control room—all of them—have also risen to the occasion, overcoming various obstacles and making their utmost contributions to the company’s resumption of production.
In February, the company produced 1,388 tons of castings, and in March, it produced 4,792 tons. This ensured the timely production of critical and urgent parts for key customers such as GE Energy, earning the trust and high praise of these customers and creating favorable conditions for securing additional customer orders.

While fully resuming production, the company is also strictly complying with the epidemic prevention regulations of the Huishan Development Zone and proactively carrying out preventive measures. It has widely adopted remote working arrangements and has not experienced any secondary disasters caused by the pandemic, thereby ensuring the safety and health of all employees.
2020 is destined to be a difficult and turbulent year. The outbreak of the global pandemic will bring many unknown risks to companies whose business is primarily export-oriented. However, under the leadership and support of Tianqi Automation, Jiangsu FAW Foundry will strive to adjust its product structure and increase production capacity for domestic customers, thereby reducing its own risks and overcoming these challenges together.
